De titel van deze post spreekt misschien voor zich, maar toch zijn er genoeg mensen op de Nordschleife die hun auto midden op de baan parkeren als ze bij een ongeluk aankomen. Niet echt slim, tenzij het echt niet anders kan.
Bij de Lauda Links bocht had een auto koelvloeistof verloren waarna een Suzuki Swift en een motorrijder in de vangrail vlogen. Zoals het hoort, verplicht is zelfs, stopte enkele mensen bij de plaats van het ongeval. In onderstaande video zien we hoe een Mini Cooper S, met achter het stuur een ervaren ring racer, de blinde Lauda Links bocht om komt vliegen en vervolgens twee auto’s op de baan stil ziet staan.
De Nurburgring fan site Bridge to Gantry plaatste als eerste de video en maakte een analyse op basis van onderstaand screenshot. Lees het onderstaande verhaal en bekijk dan de video.
- A. Second-place in the stupid parking compeition is this blue car. Perfectly on the racing line, right at a braking zone, crawling along at walking speed. Rubber-necking? Deciding what to do next? I have no idea, and I doubt he does either.
- B. But the winner is the guy parked here. Congratulations, between the two of you, the Nordschleife is now *almost* blocked. Just after a blind left turn. With a coolant spill.
- C. And this is where the stupidty nearly turns to man-slaughter. GET OVER THE FENCE!
- D. The Swift has stopped correctly, off the line and on the grass. The fact that the biker has then run into the back of him, is NOT his fault.
- E. Flagging. This is the real dilemma in this picture. You can see the flagger is running back up to the track before another driver arrives. But how do you get there? It’s faster on the grass, but it’s safer on the other side of the steel barrier. Personally, I’m self-ish and don’t want to die because somebody else has crashed. So I’ll be the slower guy on the other side of the fence, fighting the brambles and stinging nettles. It’s so much better than getting a mini in the face
